Mill Pond 4th Grade Beginning Strings
Theresa Cleary, Instructor
In the fourth grade, students have the opportunity to take beginning string lessons on either violin or viola. Fourth grade is the last year that students are able to take beginning string lessons within the school program. Classes meet once a week during Activity Period; there are typically two different beginner classes each week. Because most of the students in the Mill Pond string program began in third grade, the fourth grade beginner classes move at a faster pace and cover two years of material within one year. Students who begin lessons in fourth grade have the opportunity to join the regular fifth grade orchestra next year.
The fourth grade beginners perform along with the fourth grade orchestra in three performances throughout the school year:
Late January, in-school concert for staff and students
May/June, in-school concert for staff and students, plus an evening concert for parents
