Mill Pond 4th Grade Orchestra
Judy Gerratt, Director
In the fourth grade, students meet two times per week during Activity Period; once for orchestra rehearsal and once for a group sectional lesson. The fourth grade orchestra program is for students who are continuing from the third grade. We usually have over 120 students participating in the fourth grade orchestra.
We also offer a beginning group sectional lessons once a week for those who are new to strings. (Please see "Beginning String Lessons" listing on web site.) Beginners will join the regular orchestra for the final concert for parents and can join the fifth grade orchestra program next year.
The fourth grade orchestra gives three performances throughout the school year:
Late January, in-school concert for staff and students
May/June, in-school concert for staff and students, plus an evening concert for parents

Practice
Students need to practice regularly at home to reinforce old and new skills and prepare music for performances. In order to continue to make progress on their string instrument, we recommend that 5th graders practice for at least 15 minutes at least 4 times per week (for a total of 60+ minutes per week).
