Mill Pond Chamber Orchestra
The Mill Pond Chamber Orchestra is an auditioned ensemble which was created to give advanced 4th, 5th, and 6th grade string students the opportunity to play more challenging music in a smaller chamber orchestra setting. Some of the music we perform is at a Middle School level!
Meetings Times
Meets weekly beginning in early February through mid June from 2:25 – 3:20 pm in the Mill Pond auditorium.
Conductors: Ms. Gerratt, Ms. Clemans, and Ms. Cleary
Auditions
Auditions take place in mid-January.
The audition consists of scales (see below), two short excerpts (given in advance) and a line or two from a solo piece students are currently working on. There will also be a short sight reading selection.
Violinists should be able to play 2-octave G & A Major scales and a one-octave B flat scale.
Violists, cellists, should be able to play 2-octave C & D major and a one-octave E flat scale.
Bassist should be able to play one-octave D & F major scales.
We will be using a rubric in the audition, which measures tone, pitch and rhythmic accuracy, pulse (steady beat), bowing techniques and sight-reading ability. Although the ability to play with vibrato is most welcome, it is not a requirement to join this ensemble. For violinists and violists the same goes for shifting.
